Introduction

Intel’s AI chatbot technology refers to a combination of software and hardware solutions that allow developers, OEMs (original equipment manufacturers), and end-users to build, deploy, and use generative AI chatbots powered by large language models (LLMs), optimized specifically for Intel’s CPUs, GPUs, and neural processing units (NPU)

Requirement

  • AI chatbot must support multiple languages tailored for users in different regions.

  • 3D Human Models: The chatbot interacts via realistic 3D human avatars, displaying lifelike facial expressions and gestures in response to user inputs.

  • Hardware Optimization: Platform built for Intel’s CPUs, GPUs, and NPUs, ensuring smooth real-time experience and efficient model inference

Goal

  • Provide human-like digital assistants for diverse global audiences, breaking language barriers and making interactions feel natural and engaging.

  • Enable developers and OEMs to rapidly build, customize, and deploy advanced chatbots locally on Intel-powered devices, leveraging hardware acceleration for 3D rendering and AI model processing.

  • Empower end-users with chatbots that offer both high-quality conversational AI and highly expressive visual avatars, improving accessibility and emotional connection.

Design Decision

  • Localized Language Support: Integrate smaller, modular LLMs for efficient inference, with user-selectable or auto-detected languages. Provide region-specific personality traits and cultural behaviors for avatars to ensure authenticity in each market.

  • 3D Avatars with Realistic Expressions: Use Intel-optimized GPU pipelines and neural network-based facial animation to translate AI-generated chatbot intent and emotion to avatar expressions and gestures, supporting real-time performance on consumer devices

  • Input-to-Expression Mapping: Implement multimodal AI models that link natural language inputs (text, speech, even sentiment) to expression templates, adjusting avatar visuals for empathy, surprise, confidence, etc.

  • Interactivity and Accessibility: Ensure the chatbot can understand and communicate using voice and text; support accessibility features like subtitles, voice modulation, and UI scaling.

  • Privacy and On-Device Inference: Deploy chatbots locally to maximize data privacy and minimize latency, making use of Intel NPU for faster, more energy-efficient operations.

  • Developer Platform: Offer easy-to-use APIs, SDKs, and drag-and-drop workflow tools so developers can build chatbots with custom 3D skins, personalities, and knowledge bases, potentially using Intel’s AI Assistant Builder platform.

Value additions

  • The AI avatar acts as a dedicated personal assistant, helping organize daily activities, prepare proposals and pitch decks, manage all project-related documents, schedule meetings, and maintain the user’s calendar efficiently

  • The avatar communicates seamlessly with Human Resources, handling requests such as leave applications, salary inquiries, and other HR-related questions to ensure smooth employee support.

  • It also interacts with the Systems/IT team, efficiently raising and tracking tickets for OS, hardware, and software concerns, and provides timely updates and resolutions for all system-related queries.
